While creativity can be a slow and deliberate process, it can also be fast and spontaneous. In this highly interactive So Much Together workshop for people of all levels of creative in/experience, we will explore the possibilities that reveal themselves when people get together to imagine and create something QUICKLY!

Over the course of a few hours, we’ll work in collaboration to write and record a song, film a music video, and share our project with the world. Musician, filmmaker, and social worker Dan Currin will provide examples from his decades of experience, instructing us to follow the spark of creativity, navigate internal and external obstacles, and move beyond the trap of perfectionism. 

Learn to let the creative currents flow while breaking down the common myths—from costs to time to training—that inhibit and stall the creative process. Whether you’ve been sitting on a creative idea or are looking to revive dormant projects, this workshop is your chance to break free from all-or-nothing thinking and embrace the skills, talents, and potential collaborators already in front of you. 

Please bring something to make noise/sound/music with and a device that can record video and transfer it to a computer (not mandatory but suggested). 

Venue and workshop details

• Historic Alberta House is a wheelchair-accessible venue, with an entrance ramp
• There is no parking lot, but street parking is available near the venue. 
• This venue has three unisex ADA-accessible restrooms on the first floor. 
• Public transportation: This venue can be accessed by the 17 and 72 bus routes.
• There will be 1-2 breaks throughout the workshop. Participants are encouraged to break as needed for their own comfort.
• Light snacks and beverages (non-alcoholic) will be provided for free.
• Participants can expect to be seated for the discussion and reflection portion of this workshop, about 2.5 hours. 
• Some light movement and/or standing will be involved in the portion of the workshop that includes recording a music video.

About the presenter
 

Born and raised in southeast Portland, Dan Currin has been making music, short films, show flyers, music videos, and more for several decades now. His projects have gone by many names, including Pelican Ossman, The Gutters, DJ Acidwash, The Potatoes, Dead Man Gresham, and Mystic Hipsters. He has released dozens of tapes, records, and CDs, and he now enjoys making music videos for various local bands, including Rollerball, Fronjentress, and The Potatoes.
